Join the Arc Greater Twin Cities and Greater Twin Cities United Way for a ghoulish good time at the 12th annual A Celebration of Sorts on Thursday, Sept 17 from 9:00am to 9:00pm at the Minnesota State Fair Grounds! This year we’ll be in a new location – the Dairy Building, appropriately located across from the haunted house! Volunteers will unpack, sort and tag over 100,000 donated Halloween costumes, clothing and accessories in preparation for the opening of Arc’s Value Village Halloween Boo-tique™. A Celebration of Sorts is a fun and energized volunteer event complete with music, prizes and the always-popular appearance from the Minnesota Vikings!
This is a great opportunity for both small and large groups. Volunteers must be at least high school age.
Available volunteer shifts: 9:00 – 12:00, 1:00 – 4:00 & 6:00 – 9:00. Click the blue “Volunteer” button on the right to get to the volunteer calendar. In the calendar view, you will find “A CELEBRATION OF SORTS!” listed on Thursday, September 17 in bright purple. Click on your preferred shift to sign up!
Earn 1000 points for volunteering at our Village Reward$ event. Earn 2000 points if you bring a friend to help. Your friend gets 1000 points too!
Tues., August 18, 6-8:30pm, all locations
It’s easy and fun to volunteer at Arc’s Value Village! More than 4,000 people volunteer with us every year. We have the following shifts available for individuals or groups:
- 9 am to noon
- 1 pm to 4 pm
- 4 pm to 6 pm
- 6 pm to 8 pm
Help us sort, organize and get items ready for sale. You’ll be unpacking donations; hanging and tagging clothes; putting price stickers on books, dishes and other hard goods; testing small appliances to make sure they work, and more.
Volunteering with us is fun! We welcome:
- Church, community or service groups
- Businesses and corporate groups
- Youth who need to fulfill school or church volunteer requirements
Bring your friends – or make new friends!
Fun and Flexible
We’re open 7 days a week and we need your help. Many shifts and opportunities are available. You’ll have our sincere thanks – and the thanks of thousands of people with developmental disabilities and their families who depend on the programs you’ll help support.
Giving back to your community has never been so easy and enjoyable! We have volunteers who give us 100 hours a year, and others who give us 5. We’re thankful for every single one of them.
Our valued volunteers truly are the hands and hearts of Arc’s Value Village. So come “boogie in the backroom” or “samba on the sales floor” with us!

Sally Erickson was one of the 3M retirees at United Way’s Live to the Max sort-a-thon June 10, sorting merchandise for Arc’s Value Village. “I truly love to volunteer,” Sally said. “It does as much good for my heart as it does for the community.”
