Joseph is an energetic, charming, blond-haired toddler who has Down syndrome. Arc Greater Twin Cities helped his family connect with services. Joseph will be going to an early childhood center soon and is off to a good start in life!
Evan, 17, has been involved with Arc all his life. When Evan was born with Down syndrome, his mother immediately began working to get services for him. Today he attends Bloomington Jefferson High School and works with equipment at a fitness club. His future is bright!
Jessica, a junior at Armstrong High School, has cerebral palsy and Asperger’s syndrome. In middle school, Jessica was having some problems and Arc was able to help her parents stand up for her rights. Jessica also obtained waivered services, which helped her get a service dog and other support services.
Hunter has faced physical and cognitive difficulties from birth, many related to fetal alcohol syndrome (FAS) and family abuse. Hunter began working with Arc when he was preparing for his transition from high school. Today he volunteers as a speaker about FAS, acts as a mentor to other young Native Americans and serves on the Arc Greater Twin Cities board of directors.
At 63, Sandy is preparing for retirement and has already cut back to working three days a week. She is among the first generation of people with mental retardation and related developmental disabilities who have had the opportunity to work…and now to retire. Her mom, Miriam, was an early Arc volunteer and worked to help address the needs of older adults with disabilities.
